Chay Bowskill is a 22-year-old man from Syston, Leicestershire, who was convicted of kidnapping, coercive and controlling behaviour, and perverting the course of justice about his ex-girlfriend, Angel Lynn.
In this article, we will explore the details of his crime, the impact on the victim, and the punishment he received.
Crime Committed by Chay Bowskill and his Friend Rocco Sansome
Chay Bowskill and Angel Lynn, according to the BBC, were involved in an abusive relationship that commenced in 2019. At the time, Bowskill exhibited manipulative, menacing, and violent behaviour towards Lynn, who was 18 years old. She was accused of infidelity, and he isolated her from her family and friends. Chay continuously monitored her phone and social media. Additionally, he subjected her to multiple instances of physical abuse, which resulted in extensive lacerations and harm.
Lynn and Bowskill ended their relationship on September 17, 2020, following his physical abuse of her by throwing her against a wall and causing a back injury. Despite the separation, Bowskill persisted in harassing and stalking her.
Chay Bowskill confronted her on the street and coerced her into a van driven by his associate Rocco Sansome. Angel Lynn, near Loughborough, attempted to flee the van by opening the rear doors. But, she was ejected from the moving vehicle on a dual carriageway. After Bowskill and Sansome departed the scene, Lynn was left severely injured and lying on the road.
Angel Lynn Injuries: What Happened After the Accident?
Angel Lynn was located when members of the public summoned an ambulance. She was rushed to the hospital after suffering a traumatic brain injury that rendered her unconscious for multiple weeks. In addition, her skull, vertebrae, ribcage, pelvis, and arm were all fractured. She was required to undergo extensive rehabilitation and various operations.
Angel Lynn has sustained irreversible brain injury as a consequence of the incident. Her memory, speech, mobility, and personality have all been adversely affected. She requires assistance and care around the clock from professionals and family members. She is presently unable to pursue her ambitions of becoming a forensic scientist or exist independently. Anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have also manifested in her.
The Punishment: Verdict of the Court
Chay Bowskill was apprehended and formally accused of abduction, manipulation and control of others and obstructing the administration of justice. In January 2022, he entered a guilty plea to all charges at the Leicester Crown Court. He received a seven-year and six-month sentence in an institution for juvenile offenders.
On the contrary, Solicitor General Alex Chalk QC MP appealed against Bowskill’s sentence. He was contending that it was excessively lenient in light of the seriousness of his transgressions and the damage he inflicted upon Lynn. The Court of Appeal concurred with Chalk’s position and elevated Bowskill’s sentence to twelve years in prison in March 2022.
Twenty years old at the time of the incident, Sansome entered a guilty plea for abduction and received a three-year sentence in a facility for juvenile offenders.
Summary of the Blog
Chay Bowskill, an individual without integrity, abducted Angel Lynn and inflicted upon her anguish that irrevocably altered the course of her life. With no remorse or compassion for his actions, he attempted to conceal his participation in the crime.
Chay Bowskill’s initial sentence of 7 and 1/2 years in prison was increased to 12 years after the Solicitor General determined it was excessively lenient. Lynn continues to recuperate from her psychological and physical wounds with the assistance of her friends and family.
